My first Valentines Day with him

What happens with two strangers who are destined to spend a life with each other, meeting on valentine’s day?

As it turned out- it was just our third meeting, so we were practically strangers, except for few formal talks over phone. So when I was told that he’ll be coming down to meet me by mid of Feb, the excitement was lost amidst the stress of planning for his trip. After all, there are so few options available as gift ideas for men, that too for a person  who
1.       I don’t know much about(in fact, nothing apart from the fact that he’s a sportsperson eventually stuck in IT job)
2.       Hasn’t worn the one shirt I got for him for engagement, ever!
3.       Is a guy, after all, so obviously he wont have any interest in mushy, lovey-dovey things
4.       Has never got me anything so far, not even a chocolate, so may be he’s not into gifts and other wasteful things, like my dad…
It’s not that I didn’t try. In fact, I gave my imagination its best shot, and ran over a few options like men’s accessories (he would’ve already stocked up on them for the engagement 2 months back) sports accessories (my god! They’re so expensive! Obviously he’s into serious sports, so I cant give him any gully-cricket stuff) eatables(well, don’t they say- the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach?, but, I don’t even know what he likes… and I have to cook for a lifetime for him anyway)…
I made an exhaustive trip to the market to atleast get some idea, and it was then that it struck me- oh the genius in me finally had the shot- I saw “it” in the shop, in all its glory, and I remembered Premchand’s character from a story, and felt like it was just the thing which could not go wrong at all… it was everything Pravin would have desired at the moment, cause he had even mentioned it to me a couple of times over our phone calls… and just over 200  bucks! Wow meenal!
So finally the evening came, and he came, in a surprisingly romantic avatar… a lake-side candle-lit dinner, with eyes doing all the talking, filled with dreams… (heck, I cant even write about mush.. damn..)
So it was gift time(well, its only me, after all… he wouldn’t have even thought about “gift” for this evening. He has no idea what I’ve been planning for him for last 15 days!) And he poof- he hands me out a cute little Ganesha(for good beginnings).. wow! The first gift from him! hey, wait, another poof! There’s something else in his hands – a red, heart shaped pillow with the pic of him a like most!(wow! He thought of that!)… and it doesn’t end there… one by one, like a magician, he hands me out a biiiiig romantic, musical greeting card(I had no idea even the clichéd gifts feel so good!) and a couple of books, and music cds, and chocolates… it went on and on…
Well, don’t look at me, after all that he got for me, you’re still waiting for me to tell you what did I get? Ok, here you go…
Whenever we used to talk over phone, he always complained of less battery in phone(no, I didn’t get him a new phone… no, not even a new battery) and whenever I would ask him to charge his phone, he’ll tell me about the plug point being too far from where he would be. So, I got him an extension cord- to charge his phone from wherever he talks…  ain’t I a genius!

  3. Just can't stop laughing....this reminds me of our gift exchange cermony;-b. I was as clueless as were n it was my first meeting after ngagement. But i was clever enough to ask my aunt to get a gift for him which i will be giving, that actually worked. She handed me a packet which i presented him. But honestly i had no idea what was inside that colorful packet.... :-( the most embarresing thing is yet to come. After giving that packet Rahul kept it on floor and after an hour or so i spotted a crystal shining next to the packet. I called the restaurent staff and gave it as lost and found thing.
After reaching home i asked my aunt what all was inside that packet... it was a long list...cds, books, and as she said the last thing.....Yes , that crystal actually poped out of my packet which i proudly gave it to the manager or whoever it was.... :-(
